Another award win - Rural Oscars
What a fantastic start to 2023 with another award to add to our increasing collection. We are delighted to announce that we are the South East regional winner for Rural Enterprise in the Countryside Alliance Awards. Our farm was nominated late last year and made it to the final four which then went to the public vote. And vote they did, with over 40,000 people saying that their local business should win – and in the South East, that was South Brockwells Farm. We are thrilled to have been recognised as a team who are passionate about our community, providing quality service and excellent local produce.
Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden visited to congratulate us on our win.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Wealden farms are the lifeblood of rural life and these awards are a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate how valued our superb farms are by our local communities. South Brockwells Farm is an exceptional family-run business and a great asset to Wealden, providing excellent local produce as well as educating our next generations about our food chains. A huge congratulations to the whole team, whose hard work and dedication has once again put Wealden on the map by being recognised at a national level. I am delighted that the farm is going from strength to strength and has been recognised by the Rural Oscars Awards, and many other prestigious awards, celebrating not only its high-quality produce, but also the outstanding community contribution it makes.”
Farming is at the core of what we do but we now have the opportunity to share this and work with children and young people from across Sussex to support their education and wellbeing, teaching them about the role farming plays in their lives and where food comes from.
As we continue to battle with the challenges of working with children and animals (they say don’t work with either right?!) on a working farm, we are looking out for opportunities to work with local businesses and community groups who are as passionate as us to help us improve our site so we can continue to meet the demand in our local area and work with as many children and young people from all backgrounds as possible! Please contact us if this sounds like a project you want to be involved in.
Delicious Farm shop Easter specials
Are you looking forward to an Easter roast dinner? Whether you are having a large family celebration or a meal for 2 we have roasting joints to suit all tables and budgets. Try our home grown pork, lamb and goat, local chicken or Turkey and wild venison from the Plashett Estate.
Also available to order are our award-winning lamb boxes for your freezer. A half lamb is just £90 while a whole lamb is great value at £160. Our lambs are allowed to grow slowly on our permanent pastures and as a result, we are able to produce tender, tasty lamb with very low food miles. If you would like to place an order, please e-mail Emma at farmshop@Southbrockwellsfarm.com.
There have been a lot of news articles recently about food scarcity. As we rear the majority of the meat we sell and source other produce direct from local producers, our supply chains are short ensuring we are able to consistently offer eggs and other items we have seen in short supply in our supermarkets. This also ensures our produce is super fresh, has low food miles and supports the local economy.
With the asparagus season just around the corner keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates!
New additions to our Mobile Farm
Our Mobile farm visits have started for 2023 with several visits to schools already having taken place to enhance the school curriculum as well as therapy visits for Dementia patients.
This term we were delighted to add some new younger members to our friendly farm animal team. Please say hello to Ottis, Tinkerbell and Bumble. As you can guess they are a huge hit and are enjoying their adventures.
If you would like to meet our friendly farm animals, we will be at the following local events over the coming months including:
Bluebell Railway on 7th, 8th & 9th April
Ridgewood Spring & Easter Fair on Saturday 8th April
Heathfield Show on 27th May
Uckfield Fun Day on 4th June
Wivelsfield Fun Day 15th July

Farm School - junior shepherds in the making
As another term ends we continue to provide farm based educational support for increasing numbers of vulnerable children. The children get involved with all aspects of farming life and have particularly enjoyed lambing season. They have been hands-on not only helping with the care of our pregnant ewes but also helping with the delivery of some of our lambs (under the careful guidance of our chief Shepherdess Chrissy).
As the Easter school holidays are now upon us we look forward to welcoming children to our very popular Mini Farmers Club. Read all about their adventures in our May Newsletter.
Upcoming equestrian and Family Farm Events
The 2023 Equestrian events season kicks off on the 16th of April - we just have to keep our fingers crossed for dry weather. If your company would like to sponsor a Cross Country jump please contact us at events@southbrockwellsfarm.com
We also have family events planned for 2023 including our Sheep Racing Family Fun Days on Saturday 24th June and Saturday 19th August. Watch out for information regarding these events and more in our upcoming Newsletters.
